Silsden Helpline adds Chatterbox service

Do you know someone who’s lonely or isolated at the moment? Tell them about our new Silsden Chatterbox service!

After 4 weeks of operating the Silsden Helpline during the Coronavirus crisis, we’ve now created a new ‘chatterbox’ service to help tackle loneliness in the town and surrounding villages.

A team of volunteers are making phone calls to people already supported by the Silsden Helpline during the first month it’s been in place – to check whether they need any further help and offer a friendly chat whenever they want someone to talk to.

Any local residents across Silsden, Steeton and Eastburn can ask for one of our Chatterbox volunteers to contact them – simply by phoning 01535 400 150 or emailing

Our Silsden Helpline has taken more than 200 calls in the first 4 weeks of operation, helping local people with everything from collecting prescriptions and pensions and doing their shopping to more complex requests.

A spokesperson for the Silsden Emergency Planning Group, which is behind the Helpline and the Chatterbox service, said: “We’re determined that no-one in our community should feel isolated and abandoned during these unprecedented times. Already a steady number of people have been calling into the Silsden Helpline, but we know there are people out there who don’t know about the service our team of volunteers are offering. So I’d urge everyone to make sure their neighbours and relatives know that we are here to help.

“The Silsden Chatterbox service is going to be vital as the 12-week minimum isolation period for older and vulnerable people continues. Our friendly team of chatters are ready to make calls and provide some help for those who need it most right now.”

Our Silsden Helpline is available 9am-6pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm at weekends on 01535 400 150. People wanting to join the free Chatterbox service can phone the helpline number and someone will get back in touch with them. Email requests can also be sent through to
