Silsden Gala, which was due to be on Sunday 26th July this year, is to be held virtually on the same date because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
And the first announcement from the Silsden Gala Team is that an offer to be the Gala Queen has been accepted by fancy dress running superstar Mary Taylor.
Mary has been putting smiles on the faces of Cobbydalers for the last couple of months by running around town each day in a variety of costumes, while raising money for NHS charities. In total she has completed almost 500 miles since the start of the lockdown.
She said: “Finally, after all the years of my mum being on Silsden Gala Committee (she’s not anymore) and my sister and I always having to be the ‘stand-in carnival queen’ I have now officially been asked to be Silsden’s Carnival Queen! 38 years old – it’s never too late! Thank you soooooo Much.”
The Gala Team say they will be announcing more details about the virtual event and how Silsden residents can get involved over the next 7 weeks. Keep up to date by following Silsden Gala on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Mary has been named as one of local MP Robbie Moore’s ‘Unsung Heros’ for her fundraising efforts and helping to put a smile on people’s faces.
