Silsden AFC recorded an impressive 3-1 away win at NCEL Premier Division leaders Staveley Miners Welfare on Wednesday night.
Two goals from Khurram Shazad and one from Laurence Sorhaindo sealed the victory in front of 132 fans in North Derbyshire.
Shazad opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a strike from the edge of the box picking out the bottom left corner of the goal, before Sorhaindo doubled the Cobbydalers’ lead three minutes later when he rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into an open goal.
The hosts then equalised 20 minutes into the second half through Michael Burke after going on the counter attack. But it was Shazad’s second of the match which finalised the win for Silsden as he slotted home Jake Taylor-Mountford’s cross from the left hand side to make it 3-1.
In a post-match interview, Silsden manager Danny Forrest said: “I always felt that we could cause them problems, and that’s how it’s panned out. The way the lads reacted after conceding – how brave they were and how composed they were – was really pleasing.”
Silsden make the long trip to Bridlington Town on the Yorkshire coast for their next fixture this coming Saturday.
