Silsden fixture to raise money for ex-player’s family

Proceeds from the next Silsden AFC home match will be donated to fundraising efforts to support the family of a former player who died last year.

Tom Marshall was just 25 when he took his own life in October.

Friend and former teammate Joe Gaughan has raised more than £7,000 by running 10k every day for the first 47 days of the year – from New Year’s Day until what would have been Tom’s birthday on 16th February.

Tom and Joe were actually born on the same day and played football together for Bradford City Juniors.

The money raised by Joe will be used to support Tom’s young son Bowie growing up.

Now Silsden AFC says all proceeds from its game against Goole on 7th March will be donated to the fundraising appeal. Fans are being asked to ‘Pay What You Like’ to attend the match at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium. The fundraiser had been planned for the 22nd February fixture but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
